This June, July, and August 2020 were great months for Beach House Family Shelter, located in Toledo, Ohio. We want to give thanks for the amazing donors who so generously gave to our Participants.
In honor of the life of Catherine “Cat” Lambert, a woman who loved to support local people and businesses through her personal venture Wheresthecat.com, an event is held to help stop domestic violence.
On May 15, 2015, Cat was found in her garage, lying in a pool of blood due to blunt force trauma to her head. She died from her injuries two days later. Her partner, Daniel, was found guilty of aggravated murder almost a year later, and sentenced to life in prison.
Every year, Bier Stube Bar & Grill honors her through CATFEST, an all-day party featuring local bands and artists. Included in this celebration of Cat’s life are silent auctions, raffles, tournaments, and more, and the proceeds support both Beach House Family Shelter and Bedford Township Veterans, two amazing groups that help in the fight against domestic violence.
In June, the youth group from St. Mark’s Lutheran Church visited Beach House Family Shelter. The group of young people spent the day working outside to clean up our flower beds and backyard.
They also spent time with our Participants and took a tour of our shelter. We are so grateful for their gift of service!
Once again, our friends at St. Mark’s offered help to Beach House Family Shelter. They brought “just because” gifts to the kids living in the Shelter, including books, games, and more. We are overwhelmed by your generosity!
10 years ago, Angie Erwin was a Participant at Beach House Family Shelter. She said she will never forget how wonderful Beach House was to her and her daughter.
Angie stopped by in June with a loving donation of food for our Shelter Participants. We appreciate you, Angie, and your giving heart!
Our relationship with TPD and LCSD has expanded! Thanks to an ESG grant from the City of Toledo Department of Neighborhoods, Beach House Family Shelter contracted with recently retired officer Chris Gill and his team to ensure the safety of our participants, employees, volunteers, and donors, as well as our partners at the YWCA.
Recently, Chris and others from the police department showed up with pizza and bags of candy!
Our Participants were able to meet and interact with officers to continue nurturing vital community relationships.
On Friday, July 24, Becky from the Toledo Lucas County Homelessness Board dropped off a donation of over 60 masks to Beach House Family Shelter.
The masks were made by Tie Dye Toledo! All masks are machine washable and customizable. Originally upcycled, tie-dyed, then machine washed to create a comfortable and fashionable way to stay protected against COVID-19.
A very special shout out to Kenson, who spent his 4th birthday today, passing out school supplies and book bags to our kids here at Beach House Family Shelter.
Kenson makes his donation in the name of his great aunt Armond Bush Hawkins, who dedicated her service to enriching the lives of kids through education. Thank you to Alisha Durham, Kenson’s mom, for sharing her passion and purpose with mine. Together we all make a difference.
Toledo Public Schools (TPS) donated over 100 school supply kits for the kids at our Shelter. Our children are going to thrive this school year no matter what comes their way.
Thank you, Dr. Durant, and the amazing staff of TPS, for this wonderful donation. We are TPS PROUD!
Thank you for the amazing donations from friends of our Finance Director, Ronnie Gorsuch.
The colorful book bags filled with supplies are from Carolyn Spaulding from Bite by Carolyn Disposable face masks from Beth Figley (aka Fig). Thank you so much! The kids at Beach House will have the essentials to start school this year, and we appreciate that very much.
The NATCA Charitable Foundation and the Toledo Air Traffic Controllers have once again filled backpacks with school supplies for our Beach House Family Shelter residents.
We cannot express how much this means to the kids at our shelter – because of this donation, our kids will have the necessary supplies they need to start school this fall.
From the DAWG House at 2400 Collingwood Ave to the BEACH House at 915 N. Erie… Sara Barnhill, an Intervention Specialist at the elite learning institution known as Jesup W. Scott High School, organized a virtual BOOK Party to benefit the children of Beach House Family Shelter.
This fundraiser raised close to $300 in book donations that will be used in our shelter library. Sara, we thank you for your commitment to academic excellence, your passion for the kids of this community, and for sharing your purpose of uplifting and bringing hope to our young minds. We salute Sara and the Bulldog Family of Scott High School!
A huge THANK YOU to Panera Bread for the healthy grab-and-go lunches they deliver to us daily. Our Shelter Participants love snacking on the delicious, fresh salads, hummus and veggies, sandwiches, and fruit!
This is an amazingly generous gift, and we appreciate it so much!
THANK YOU to our friends at CGS Imaging in Holland, OH. They donated two beautiful banners for our Central Ave. location.
