Our organization provides housing stabilization and economic stability through trauma-informed behavioral health, education, employment, therapy, case management, substance use disorder (SUD) treatment resources, and aftercare services to the homeless in the greater Toledo area.
Beach House Family Shelter is one of three shelters in northeast Ohio serving families experiencing homelessness. During 2022, we helped nearly 200 households, 434 adults, and 221 children.

In 2022, Leading Families Home served 197 households transitioning from homelessness to permanent housing. Those households consisted of 434 adults and 221 children. This means 50% of those we serve are children.
Through our partnership with National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, we have served nine veterans, many with disabilities.
While living at Beach House Family Shelter, our Participants stay an average of 55 days before finding permanent housing.
Overall, we have served 21,051 meals to those in need.
92% of Participants who complete our programs report satisfaction with our services.
In 1921, Beach House Family Shelter was founded by Helen (Beach) Jones to provide shelter for unprotected women and children.
Beach House Family Shelter received tax-exempt status in 1942, and received a charter from the State of Ohio as a nonprofit corporation in 1963. The name, "Women's Protective Association" was changed to "Beach House, Inc."
In 1982, F.O.C.U.S. was founded to assist with long-term supportive housing, food, and case management. The goal of F.O.C.U.S. was to help families gain independence and economic stability through education and employment.
Also in 1982, Beach House Family Shelter began to include emergency family shelter and services for intact families, including fathers, and single-parent fathers with children.
In 2016, Beach House Family Shelter merged with F.O.C.U.S. to create Leading Families Home. The organization expanded its role to provide housing and economic stability through trauma-informed behavioral health, education, employment, therapy, case management, substance use disorder (SUD) treatment resources, and aftercare services to the homeless in the greater Toledo area.
Currently, the list of families seeking emergency shelter is over 190 individuals with an unknown number of children. Beach House Ashland will open in the second quarter of 2023, and will house up to 75 individuals. This facility will allow us to serve 3x more individuals in addition to those served at Beach House Family Shelter on Erie St.
During 2022, our donors made a significant impact on those transitioning from homelessness to permanent housing. Our mission depends on the generosity and kindness of those in our community and, without our donors, we would not be able to help those in need.
Our programs are set up to assist those experiencing homelessness to gain economic independence and housing stability through education, case management, trauma-informed behavioral health, therapy, treatment resources, and aftercare.
