Meet Ruth Ann Petroff, the HR Manager at Leading Families Home. In this interview, she shares how she came to our organization, her thoughts on what makes our organization unique, and why a person should donate to our cause.
I’m Ruth Ann Petroff. I am the Human Resources Manager at Leading Families Home. I am in charge of all of our human resource functions from benefits to orientation to hiring practices, compliance, and helping keep our staff motivated and happy and keep our morale and spirits going.
I came to Leading Families Home actually through the organization known as FOCUS. FOCUS was an organization designed to help people going from homelessness to their own homes and sustainable lives. About three and a half or so years ago, Beach House and FOCUS merged to become Leading Families Home. I was a board member at FOCUS, I stayed a board member through the merger, and remained a board member after the merger. Through some reorganization of Leading Families Home and expansion, we were looking for a human resources manager, and I assumed that role.
We’re different in that we take families, family units, not just a mom and her child, not just a single male, or a father who has to be separated from his family, but we do take the whole unit as a family. We also take individuals, but a lot of what we do focuses on families and keeping them together.
One of the things that appealed to me as becoming a board member, even through the FOCUS time and the merger and now Leading Families Home, is that even after our Participants go through the program, many of them stay in their homes. They stay self-sufficient, we make sure that we have aftercare for them, and we follow them. Our success rate is just phenomenal. We’re trying to close that revolving door of shelter life, and we’ve been very successful at it. And it just helps build our community and make our community even stronger.
For our current and future Participants, the need for comprehensive services continues to grow. To meet that need, we have big plans. And big plans call for big dollars. We need your help. Will you partner with us to meet the needs of our community? You can give by PayPal , or by mailing a check to Leading Families Home, 2910 W. Central Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43606.
